Crazy Manager

Ha! I have a good story for you.

So the other day, it was coming near the end of my shift, and my particular closing job was to clean around the soda machine and the counters all around it. There were two gigantic drinks sitting on the machine, and I figured they belonged to a couple of the cooks. So since I didn't see anyone around, I moved them off of the machine and onto the counter so that they could pick them up, and so that I could clean the soda machine. I also saw some random lids sitting on the counter on the other side (it's shaped like an L, and they were on the other end of the L). I figured some server, in a rush, had left those soda lids on the counter. So I grabbed them and tossed them in the trashcan that was sitting right under the counter.

Seconds later, my manager comes by. "What did you DO!" she says. "W HY DIDN'T YOU JUST ASK! THOSE WERE MY DRINKS! I JUST WANTED TO GET A DRINK FOR ME AND (C) BECAUSE ITS BEEN A LONG DAY! WHERE DID THE LIDS GO!!! did you THROW THEM AWAY!!!! What's WRONG WITH YOU!!!" She kept going on and on.....to the point where I just couldn't hold it in anymore and I started to cry. "Couldn't you have just WAITED for a few minutes!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK!!!!" (ok, all I did was move them onto the counter, and the lids were right on top of the trash....easily grabbed and rinsed off). Her daughter, another manager on that night, looked at me like "uh oh...." Her daughter bent over and took the lids out of the trashcan.
All the while, I am profusely apologizing and trying so hard not to cry. So I leave the scene while she is still yelling about it, because I wasn't sure what else I could do. I ran into the main eating room where it was packed with customers, and soon she was in my face again, yelling about how I shouldn't have done that. By this time I am crying, and its in front of everyone.
She says, "I'm sorry I made you upset, but you should have ASKED FIRST!" I am like, "It's ok, im sorry, i'm sorry.........!!"

I ran into the bar and started cleaning things up really fast, just to get my mind off of it..and IN SHE COMES AGAIN!!! She keeps going on and on! Servers come in and out in droves, and she is getting onto me in front of everyone...all my coworkers. Great....So here I am in full fledged tears and sobs and I'm doing that dumb breathing thing you do when you cry.....and I finally escape into a bathroom stall. She can't get me in there! It took me like 10 minutes to calm down.

Seriously??? Ridiculous. I have never had managers act like this before.....Now, I understand she may have been stressed out, and rightfully so, I mean, its a busy business and you have to please everyone. I'm not trying to dis her as a person by all means. But geesh.....

  1. Whoa, was this a manager or the owner? 'Cause if it was the owner, I've had her do something similar to me before. I got mad, though, and snapped back...probably not the best idea, haha.

For my blog I use GIMP - It's a free program you can download online, and it's somewhat similar to photoshop. It's pretty cool what you can do with it. I get a lot of ideas on how to use it from www.kevinandamanda.com

  2. It was the owner....she scares me. ha! You snapped back?? you are brave. I was so overwhelmed I didn't even know how to respond....I told my mom and she was livid. haha

OH! I used to use Gimp all the time. Thanks for the heads up. Did you use it for your header? And also for your photo inserts?

I love kevinandamanda.com. I will have to scour their site a little bit more. Thanks for letting me know! :)

  4. p.s. I use a program called photoplus se... it's free and much easier to use. Pretty basic.. you have a tool bar that easily allows layering. All you do is drag layers in the order you want! It's great for blogging!

You can also find cute stuff at www.shabbyprincess.com

  5. HAHA! seriously? a post crying face?? yah that's a great thing to do after someone cries....chew them out and make them feel even worse.

Ugh....Oh thanks for the info! I'll have to play around some more. I'm trying to get it so its more stretched out and so that I can still use the background. You know what I mean? I dont like how its like, all in the middle of the page...but most backgrounds only let you use minima....

  6. You need to edit your html. Go to layout, edit html and press ctrl+f (this is a shortcut to find something on your current page) and type:

    #main-wrapper

Edit the px size of the width DIRECTLY under the #main-wrapper. Mine is set to 1200px. Fiddle with it until it's the size you like.
this changes the main blog area

Then press ctrl+f again and type:

    #sidebar-wrapper

Edit the px size of the width DIRECTLY under that as well. That is where all your widgets are. Mine is set to 220px. I have a 3 column blog so it might take some adjusting for yours. Be sure to back up your blog before you make changes and press preview before you save any changes.

Then, you can create a background by setting your pixels (on gimp or whatever) to 1500*968 (or whatever size you like) and create two bars for the sides. Upload it the photobucket.com and then add the link to your html. I would go to kevinandamanda.com for instructions on that part.

Good luck. I hope that wasn't too confusing:)

  7. Dang, Elise, you seriously know what you are doing. Thanks for the info. I'll have to play around with it...but I must constrain myself from doing it now cause its 1137pm and i always end up staying up til like 2 in the morning when i mess with blogging. ha! thanks again....

  8. Sorry I didn't get back to you quicker, but Elise is the girl to go to for blogging - she knows more than I do! She's the one who showed me kevinandamanda.com and shabbyprincess.com. Yeah, and just like she was saying, changing the dimensions of your columns is really easy - keep the minima template and just change the html yourself

  9. Oh, and yeah, I use GIMP for everything - photo inserts and all. It's much much easier to save text and everything as one big picture rather than figuring out how to do it piece by piece. I'll have to check out photoplus, though, GIMP is the only thing I've ever tried

  10. Thanks girls! As soon as I get a free minute I'll have to play with it!

  11. Shayna, Where do you work? I have a hard time working with a person that would do what your boss did. Unfortunately too many people like that become managers. You did much better than me at handling the verbal assault.
