Beginning to Wonder...

Yah, so, the photographer DID in fact look me up....and No I did NOT add him.  Maybe that is harsh, but when I see pictures of guys posing seductively with half naked girls, well....that's just a total turn off.  And I am not even talking about ONE picture...there was some other pretty crude pictures on there, as well.  I mean, I'm not even exaggerating here.

What ever happened to the moral decency of this nation?  Of this world?  Look, I do not claim to be perfect, but come on.  Especially someone that acts all nice and good, and then you see what they are really like, and supposedly they are a BYU graduate--which seems to indicate that they have some morals, since they lived the honor code *supposedly*, LDS or not.....

Anyways, I'm beginning to wonder where all the decent guys are?  How come there are so many pervs out there...And, and.....even the girls.  I tell you a story....

At my sister's wedding, my aunt came up to me and told  me that they had written some crude things on the car.   For my aunt to be offended that is pretty bad....Anyway, so I go out there, faced about twenty people laughing and congratulating themselves on the car....Well, I said,

"Can you guys please take the dirty stuff off the car?"

"Like WHAT! There's nothing on there that is bad..."

"Oh yeah? What about that...and THAT...and THAT is awful!  At least take that part off.  Look I can erase it, its really easy.  Please."

"Don't you dare erase that, if you do, we will just write it back on there and make it worse."

"Look, that is my sister, I don't appreciate it.  Take it off."

"No.  We are not taking it off."

"Take it off, she's my sister."

"We aren't, and if you even try we will make it worse.  Don't you dare, that's not your car.  You've been in Utah too long."

I walked away, shot them some looks, and went inside before I blew a fuse.

In comes the photographer talking to another girl, "That wasn't really that bad, the stuff they wrote on there.  I don't see what the big deal is."  (I overheard it..)  Then apparently they were talking about me for a long time afterwords, as my other sister went out to check out the situation, and laughing at me and telling my sister to guard the door in case I was coming out.

Sorry, but this is getting really old when I see it over and over again.

Where have all the real, decent cowboys gone?  Come out, come out, wherever you are!  lol

That makes me mad to hear that. I had similar experiences when I was in the separations barracks in the Navy waiting to be processed out of the military. People would tell the most crude stories about what they have done with girls and I would try to walk away or ignore them and they would just shout their extremely crude even louder.

You handled the situation better than I would have If I had been there when they said "we will just write it back on there and make it worse" I would have broken that persons thumbs and let everyone else they can expect the same if the write the same or worse. If Ammon can chop off arms there shouldn't be anything wrong with breaking thumbs

Shayna!
You are rockin' awesome!! Way to stand up for what you believe in! And I totally agree with you...I ask myself at least once every day "what is happening to our world"? It's sad when I hear my second graders saying things and talking about things that I had never heard til Junior high/high school. It's sickening. But I think what you did is very cool. We need more people in this world like YOU, then it would be a better place!!!

Haha, I was feeling kind of dumb actually...but then a few days later my mom was like, "I was so scared to make a scene at your sister's wedding! she ordered me to behave myself!" And then she said, "I was so ashamed I didn't say anything! But in my mind I was like, Oh, we will just sick Shayna on them!!" haha...apparently I have a reputation in my family or something...

But its true, seriously....I mean, these people were supposed to be LDS. I can see having a little fun on the car. But I mean, when it comes to writing embarassing inappropriate things, well....I just dont get why people don't understand the sacredness of it, seriously. Yah its fun and stuff, but its beautiful and sacred...and not to be written crudely all over a car. LDS or not, its just tacky and distasteful.

For a less extreme comment. I'm seeing the same attitude among some of my LDS friends as well. They will watch rated R movies and say there wasn't "that much" swearing or there wasn't "that much" violence. I've even discovered I had gotten in that same trap as well. The "it's not that bad" trap. Way to go for not falling into that trap and standing up for what is right! Hopefully your next experience with standing up for the right has a more positive outcome.

Good for you! I feel the same way when my teenage siblings turn on MTV and I'm horrified and they think its normal. Desensitized I guess. BUt on the other hand, don't worry. I promise there are good guys (and girls) out there.

My least favorite thing about standing up for standards is how everybody tries to justify themselves by making it seem like YOU'RE weird or that you've got something wrong with you because you haven't justified standards away. "You've been in Utah too long." "Lighten up." "You're so self-righteous." Have you ever heard any of these before when really all you were actually doing is standing up for decency in the midst of a group, even if you did it in the nicest and most loving way possible?

I dunno. I wasn't there, but I have had something pretty similar. Good work for trying to keep things appropriate and such. :D

Hey so this is really late in commenting, but . . . I just saw some of the pictures of what they wrote on the car and yeah it bothered me a lot(and I love when the semi-naughty things are written are the get-a-way cars - it's the one time it is acceptable - but I still feel it should be done with class and decency, you know? decent semi-naughty things - is there such a thing? :).

I get what you're saying Shayna, there is a crassness, rudeness, and immorality in our society that didn't exist before (at least not to the extent it does now), and it weighs heavily on me a lot of the time (I worry so much for my future babes because of things like this).

I hate how much sex/violence/self-expression/immorality is sensationalized nowadays. It damages a lot of homes. When I really start to think about how pervasive it is I have those moments when I just think "Oh Heavenly Father, can the Second Coming come soon? Please, just let it come soon."

Love you girl and keep with it. Sorry I don't comment much. Since my work makes me send out 50+ emails a day writing any more comments or emails is the last thing I want to do. . . so when I do comment know it's cause I love ya a lot!
